Blue Keld
Artesian Mineral Water

The Artesian
story began over a decade ago when Blue Keld Springs Ltd was approached to
become a contract packer for a dark blue teardrop shaped Venetian glass
bottle for the UK
market. The bottle had previously been filled by a mineral water producer
in Italy, however, the
exceptional strong mineral content affected the taste of the water and it
was not suited for the UK
market. Thus, Blue Keld ‘Artesian’ was born.
It was
the Vikings who first discovered the crisp, clear waters of Blue Keld in the
Yorkshire Wolds. Filtered through chalk and limestone uplands, this natural
mineral water bubbles to the surface at one of the country’s few
genuine artesian springs. Blue Keld rebranded the dark blue bottle as
‘Artesian’ after the Blue Keld Artesian Spring from where the
mineral water was drawn. A strategic decision was taken right from the
outset that Artesian was a premium packaged product and as such, would only
be available to the hotel, restaurant and catering market (HORECA) and this
is still the case today. Artesian is not available through any retail
distribution.
Blue
Keld developed the sales of Artesian through the UK Horeca market over the
next few years and the Artesian brand became very well established within
the premium mineral water market. Accordingly, Blue Keld took over the
exclusive distribution for the UK and shortly thereafter began
to develop the brand within the international market. The inroads made
within the international market culminated in a visit to the Blue Keld
facility in 2004 by HRH Prince Andrew in his role as Special Ambassador to
the UKTI.
Blue
Keld had always sought to associate Artesian as a premium quality product
and expected the same from the bottle owners and manufacturers. However,
ongoing quality problems with the teardrop shaped bottle, together with
spiralling bottle purchase costs and the fact that after nearly a decade in
the market place, market researched gave us clear indications that the time
was right to develop a new Artesian bottle. This led Blue Keld to the door
of an internationally known but local glass manufacturer who we worked with
very closely to create the perfect shape and colour of glass bottle to
represent our unique Artesian mineral water. Thus, the new Artesian bottle was born.
Encased
in an exquisite and exclusive proprietary aquamarine blue bottle, this
truly distinctive British product is perfect for all manner of premium
drinking or dining occasions. The official launch of the new aquamarine
Artesian took place at the Blue Keld site on the 19th September
2011 and customers old and new saw the new bottle for the very first time.
Since this official launch sales are continuing to be developed both in the
UK
and the international marketplace.
